Sixteen more books have fallen in The Big Bible Bash. And only sixteen remain. Two of our 2-seeds are out, and one of the Gospels has now been eliminated. The tournament has begun to favor NT books, with only 6 OT books remaining. But that includes heavy hitters like Genesis, Isaiah, and Psalms. So this round of voting should prove very interesting. (Update: Voting is now closed.)
All of the number 1 seeds cruised to relatively easy victories in the Round of 32, winning with an average of 90.5% of the vote in their races. But it was a tough day for the 2-seeds. (2) Mark fell to ( 7) Philippians (41.3% vs. 58.7%); and (2) Proverbs fell to (7) Revelation (32.6% to 67.4%). Even (2) Matthew struggled for a while against (7) Exodus, before winning with 61.6%.
A few other “upsets” came in the matchups involving a 4-seed vs. a 5-seed, with most of the 5-seeds coming out on top.
- (5) Ephesians over (4) Jonah with 80.4%
- (5) Job over (4) Ruth with 62.3%
- (5) Galatians over (4) 1 Corinthians with 52.5%
The only 4-seed to advance was Hebrews, defeating (5) Esther with 84.8% of the vote.
One of the contests actually ended up in a tie. (3) Ecclesiastes and (6) Joshua ended up with precisely 50% of the vote. And it was split pretty evenly most of the voting.
Unfortunately, I hadn’t considered the need for a tie-breaker. I was going to cast lots. But after consulting with the experts on Twitter and Facebook, I discovered that either no one really knows what that means, or I would needt a linen ephod, an ummim and thurim, rat bones, and a crystal ball, among other things. I’m traveling this week, though, and I left most of those in my other suitcase. (Except rat bones, of course. Who travels without rat bones?) So I made do with a random number generator online, which gave the victory to Ecclesiastes.
The Big Winners
No surprise that the biggest winners of Round 32 came from the 1-seeds. (1) John crushed (8) Leviticus with 94.2% of the vote. And Genesis dismissed (8) Judges with 91.3%. For a while it looked like Romans might score a perfect 100% against (8) Deuteronomy, which went most of the first day without a single vote. But Deuteronomy recovered and ended up with 15.8% by the end.
