It’s Conference Time!

Like Bible and theology professors from across the land, I’m traveling this week, flying to Milwaukie and Chicago for the annual meetings of the Evangelical Theological Society (Milwaukie) and the joint meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature and the American Academy of Religion (Chicago). I realize that may not sound terribly exciting, but it’s usually one of the highlights of my year–a great opportunity to catch up with friends, meet new people, and maybe even attend an interesting lecture or two. (Yes, it is possible for a lecture at a theology conference to be interesting.)

As usual, I’ll try to post summaries/comments of the better papers here. If I actually attend the sessions that I’m planning on at the moment (and if any of these are good enough to bother summarizing), that means you can expect something on…

  • Evangelicals and creation care (that’s the main theme of ETS this year)
  • Theological interpretation of scripture
  • Theological anthropology (what does it mean to be a person, what is the image of God, etc.)
  • Michael Horton’s Systematic Theology (review discussion)
  • Introducing Karl Barth to Evangelicals
  • Philosophy (metaphysics) and theology
  • And something from Ben Witherington (no topic yet)

I have my eye on a few others, but these are the ones that have the highest chance of not getting skipped at the last minute to go have coffee with someone (no guarantees).

It’s a busy conference this year, so I probably won’t be able to post summaries of the sessions until next week. So stay tuned.
