A few weeks ago my wife mentioned that she was going to be leading a Bible study on 1 Peter this summer. And, as soon as she said that, I knew what I had to do. 1 Peter is one of those books of the Bible that I really need to spend more time on. Most of my NT effort has gone toward the pauline epistles (no surprise there), though I’ve done quite a bit with the Gospels over the years. I’ve even spent some time on Hebrews, James, and 1 John. But, Peter’s letters? Not so much.
So, this summer I’m working through 1 Peter. (Yes, even though I’m a theologian, I do in fact read my Bible on occasion.) It should be fun. Who knows, I may even go on and do 2 Peter after that. We’ll see.
What about you? What is one book of the Bible that you think you’d really like to study more in the future? It could be a book that you think you’ve neglected, or it could just be a book that you’re fascinated by and would like to study more carefully.
By the way, I could pick several books from the Old Testament. But, if I had to narrow it down to just one, it would definitely be Jeremiah.
And, while I’m at it, if there are any 1 Peter specialists out there, feel free to let me know if you have any favorite resources that I should check out (especially if they’re a little off the beaten path).
